GIS Mapping & Land Analysis
Since its inception, D&A has provided quality services and products that integrate innovative approaches to environmental issues, particularly in urbanizing settings. Over the years, the firm has developed the capacity to provide mapping and geospatial products using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.
D&A Approach
GIS has been a crucial component in many of D&A’s projects over the past decade, used to map field data and to conduct spatial analyses. We also collect field data using GPS/mobile devices and incorporate this information into our GIS maps and databases. Our staff are experienced in converting between ArcGIS and AutoCAD platforms, which provides flexibility in data integration. In complex projects, the development of a database is used to organize and analyze large amounts of data. Primarily focused on Terrestrial Ecology, these projects have ranged in scale from site specific to regional with a diversity of clients including municipal, provincial, and federal governments as well as the development community.
D&A Expertise
D&A has a full-time GIS Analyst dedicated to mapping and land analysis. Software currently utilized for desktop analysis includes ESRI’s ArcGIS 10, ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.. In the field, D&A make use of ESRI’s mobile data collection applications including Collector and Survey123 for ArcGIS. When higher accuracy data collection is required, D&A will use a Trimble GeoXH Explorer 6000 Series unit equipped with ArcPad 10 to facilitate data collection. This handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) unit provides real-time subfoot accuracy for site inventory applications including tree surveys, ELC and wetland boundary delineations.
